“When my daughter was born, she was most calm and peaceful when cuddled on my chest, skin-to-skin. While the bonding was amazing, constantly holding her in that same position would lock my hands and arms in place.
One morning, while cuddling my baby, I took my hands off of her to pick up my phone when my daughter startled and rolled off my chest, onto the floor. After a few panicked phone calls, and a number of tears, I took to the internet and realized that I was not alone – lots of babies have fallen off parent’s chests…and that's just those who admit it.
I tried various slings, wraps and carriers to keep her secure, but I found most of them were too complicated, took too long to put on (seconds can feel like hours when you’ve got a crying newborn) or were uncomfortable for skin-to-skin (knots digging in, strain on my neck and shoulders, bunching fabric, bulky material); some products also require your baby to be in certain positions - some days my baby wanted her legs straight, some days she wanted them tucked underneath her and she liked to turn her head. My other challenge was the transfer – trying to seamlessly move my sleeping baby from the wrap or sling to her crib was impossible. Every time she’d wake up crying, and I’d be back at square one with her cuddled on my chest, skin-to-skin, my hands locked in that same position. I simply wanted something that would belt my sleeping baby to me.”
I approached my sister, Ashley Wade, to help develop and bring a solution to life.
Not long after the guilt wore off, SleepBelt was born.
Both stretchy and snug, the SleepBelt hugs your baby against you while allowing for simple transfer to a crib or bassinet. Facilitating hands-free bonding, SleepBelt lets you enjoy your baby’s warmth and peace, while you relax knowing your baby is snug and secure against you.
